Abstract: The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 marks a crucial shift in India's higher education with a focus on flexible curricula and assessments, autonomy, credit transfer, teacher development and inter nationalization in higher education etc.. This paper critically evaluates NEP 2020, emphasizing personalized learning, interdisciplinary approaches and continuous evaluation to meet diverse learner needs and industry demands. It suggests to replace traditional exam-based assessments to comprehensive systems with technology integration. Despite its transformative vision, implementation hurdles like resource constraints, regulatory barriers, and resistance to change persist, necessitating solutions for inclusive education enhancement.
Moreover, the paper examines NEP 2020‘s call for institutional autonomy to drive innovation and local relevance, highlighting the challenges in embracing autonomy effectively. It also addresses credit transfer mechanisms, internationalization efforts, and teacher development initiatives outlined in NEP 2020, discussing their significance, challenges, and potential impact. Overall, this paper offers a thorough analysis of fundamental elements of NEP 2020'sand hurdles in implementing this policy in higher education.
