Plagiarism & AI Policy

Plagiarism & AI Policy

The Global Journal of Education (GJE) is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity, originality, and ethical publishing. In line with the University Grants Commission (Promotion of Academic Integrity and Prevention of Plagiarism in Higher Educational Institutions) Regulations, 2018 and COPE guidelines, GJE has established a comprehensive policy to prevent plagiarism and ensure transparency regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in manuscript preparation.

Plagiarism Policy

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the act of presenting another person’s ideas, words, or creative expressions as one’s own without proper acknowledgment. This includes:

  • Copying text, figures, tables, equations, or illustrations without citation.

  • Reusing significant portions of one’s own previously published work (self-plagiarism) without proper acknowledgment.

  • Downloading or reproducing content from the internet without attribution.

Types of Plagiarism

  1. Direct Plagiarism – Verbatim copying without citation.

  2. Self-Plagiarism – Reusing one’s own published work without proper citation.

  3. Mosaic Plagiarism – Mixing text from multiple sources without attribution.

  4. Accidental Plagiarism – Unintentionally failing to cite sources or paraphrase correctly.

Plagiarism Detection and Prevention

Pre-Publication Checks:

  • All submissions are screened for plagiarism using Turnitin before peer review.

  • A similarity index exceeding the acceptable threshold (as per UGC norms) will require revision before proceeding.

During Review:

  • If plagiarism is detected during peer review, authors will be asked to revise or provide citations.

  • Manuscripts with significant plagiarism may be rejected outright.

Post-Publication:

  • If plagiarism is found after publication, the editorial team will investigate and may:

    • Notify the author’s institution or funding body.

    • Add a “plagiarism notice” watermark on the published PDF.

    • Retract the article in serious cases.

Reporting Plagiarism:

  • Readers, reviewers, or other stakeholders may report suspected plagiarism to the editorial office at editor@gjejournal.com.

Author Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all work is original and properly cited.

  • Avoid self-plagiarism unless prior work is clearly referenced.

  • Disclose any prior publication or overlap.

AI Policy

Use of AI in Manuscript Preparation

The use of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Grammarly, or other language models) is permitted only under these conditions:

1. Transparency:

  • Authors must disclose the use of AI tools in the Acknowledgments or Methods section.

  • Specify the tool used and its role (e.g., grammar checking, text suggestions, figure generation).

2. Authorship & Accountability:

  • AI tools cannot be credited as authors or co-authors.

  • Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the manuscript.

3. Plagiarism Prevention:

  • AI-generated text must be checked for originality and proper citations.

  • Any AI-generated content drawing from existing literature must be cited appropriately.

4. Ethical Use:

  • AI must support—not replace—critical thinking, analysis, or originality.

  • Authors must ensure AI use aligns with ethical guidelines and does not misrepresent research.

Consequences of Policy Violations

  • Plagiarism: Manuscripts will be rejected or retracted, and the case may be reported to the author’s institution.

  • AI Misuse: Failure to disclose AI use or using AI to fabricate/misrepresent research may result in rejection or retraction.

Commitment to Academic Integrity

The Global Journal of Education is dedicated to maintaining transparency, credibility, and trust in the academic record. Authors, reviewers, and editors are expected to adhere to this policy throughout the publication process.
