Conflict of Interest

Conflict of Interest Policy

The Global Journal of Education (GJE) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and ethical conduct in academic publishing. To protect the credibility and objectivity of the research we publish, all authors, reviewers, editors, and editorial board members are required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest that may influence their work or decision-making during the publication process.

Definition of Conflict of Interest

A conflict of interest exists when personal, financial, professional, or other relationships could compromise — or be perceived to compromise — the objectivity, integrity, or fairness of research, peer review, or editorial decisions.

Conflicts may include, but are not limited to:

  • Financial interests – Funding, employment, consultancy fees, honoraria, stock ownership, or patents.

  • Personal relationships – Family connections, close friendships, or collaborations with authors or institutions.

  • Academic or professional affiliations – Memberships, partnerships, or institutional ties that may bias judgment.

  • Ideological or intellectual biases – Strong personal beliefs that may influence interpretation of data or outcomes.

Responsibilities of Authors

  1. Disclosure at Submission – Authors must disclose all potential conflicts of interest, including financial and non-financial interests, when submitting a manuscript.

  2. Statement in Manuscript – A conflict of interest statement must appear in the manuscript under a dedicated heading before the References section. If none exist, authors should state:

“The authors declare no conflict of interest.”

  3. Funding Sources – All sources of financial or institutional support must be disclosed, including grant numbers and sponsor names.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

  1. Disclosure – Reviewers must inform the editor of any conflicts of interest that could bias their review (e.g., collaboration with the author, personal relationship, or competitive interest).

  2. Recusal – If a conflict exists, reviewers must decline to review the manuscript and recommend an alternative reviewer if possible.

Responsibilities of Editors and Editorial Board Members

  1. Impartial Handling – Editors must evaluate all manuscripts objectively, free from personal, financial, or professional bias.

  2. Disclosure – Editors and board members must declare any conflicts related to a submission and recuse themselves from editorial decisions when appropriate.

  3. Transparency – Any declared conflicts will be documented by the editorial office to ensure fairness in decision-making.

Handling Conflicts of Interest

  • Assessment – The editorial office will evaluate all disclosures to determine the potential impact on the review or publication process.

  • Mitigation – Actions may include assigning an alternative editor or reviewer, requesting further clarification, or rejecting the manuscript if necessary.

  • Publication of Disclosures – All disclosed conflicts will be published alongside the article for transparency.

Non-Compliance

Failure to disclose a conflict of interest may lead to:

  • Rejection of the manuscript.

  • Retraction of a published article.

  • Notification to the author’s institution or funding agency.

Commitment to Ethical Publishing

By adhering to this policy, the Global Journal of Education ensures transparency, fairness, and trust in the scholarly publishing process. We encourage all stakeholders to act with honesty and integrity at every stage of manuscript handling.
